7.3L codes p1247 and p1248 Help
I am hoping someone has the answer to my 2002 f350's issue . My wife was bringing me to work last Wednesday when my 2002 f350 , 7.3L TD suddenly started running ruff . When she stopped to let me out I noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust stacks .I finally got home from work today to put my truck on my SCT tuner and it gave codes p1247 and p1248 . The tuner said it was (turbo boost pressure low) , and (turbo boost pressure not detected) and also the coolant level was 1/4 gallon low . I obviously thing I may have a bad turbo . About a month ago I had a local diesel shop change the turbo pedestal seals and also the high pressure oil pump and line to it to try to get rid of a oil leak but the items still did not get rid of the oil leak . I am wondering if somehow a bad turbo is also the cause of a bad turbo ? Also could the diesel shop taking off the turbo to fix the pedestal seals of caused the turbo to go because at the time (a month ago) the turbo seemed fine but after the seals where replaced I started getting black stuff coming out of my stacks all over the sides of my truck bed . I added water to the recovery tank and it still runs ruff and smokes and also the turbo whistle isn't notable as before . I have no boost guage so I have no idea how much boost it has .My wife drove it away so I do not know how bad the power loss is either .If anyone can help with a answer I would really appreciate it , Thanks !

Your MAP sensor could be causing those codes. It's located on the passenger side against the firewall. It has a hose coming from the intake going to it, as well as a plug on the top of it. Check the plug, it gets dirty and looses connection. As for the smoke, is there oil in the tailpipe? Pull the downpipe off the turbo and look for signs of oil in it. However, having the radiator low, might be a sign of something else. Any anti-freeze leaks?

To any one that read the 2002 f350 codes p1247 and p1248
Just was looking at my truck and previously I mentioned that there was no turbo whistle but I was wrong . The turbo whistle is definitely normal , but when engine is revved it POURS out white smoke , and MAP sensor appears almost new , no loose wires or even oil on them and there is oil all over the back side of the engine also . No oil is pooled in the intake valley . I had mentioned also that a diesel mechanic had changed the turbo pedestal seals about a month ago also and also that there is black sludge coming out of the stacks going all over the bed , Thanks for any help !

Thanks for the feedback ! That would mean the only cure to the problem is a new or rebuilt turbo I would assume . Do you know the best place price wise to get a turbo and a one that gets a louder whistle out of the turbo ? Can I put a 6.0L turbo on or are they different ? I know the 6.0L have a very loud whistle . It is not good when you have to blow a thousand bucks in parts and labor and be no better of than before the turbo went .

The Garrett 38R is a great replacement. Bolts right in without any modifications. Your factory turbo is rebuildable though. Clay at Riffraff Diesel, a site sponsor here is likely your best bet. I believe he sells both, the 38R, and the rebuild kit for the one you already have. The 38R, from what I've been told is a much better turbo then the original. More whistle, boost, and cooler EGT's. The 38R however, is not rebuildable, from what I've been told.
