What kind of voltages are you seeing now? Do you mind reporting back after a while whether or not it gives you an overcharge indication?
The stock alternator would randomly fail, then start working again. I limped it along as long as I could. before I removed the stock alternator, it was making 13.2 V at cold idle. new alternator was 14.8 V at cold idle.

bingo. no more battery failures due to undercharging.
small update on this.. DC power alternator started making a high pitched squealing noise when I started the truck. with the alternator removed from the truck, you can hear a squeak when turning the pulley by hand.
Just called DC Power and got an RMA# to send it back for repairs. Good thing I saved the original alternator and the box it was shipped in.
Let us know how this turns/turned out. I'd hate to have to have the truck down completely for a month while they are fixing the alternator. It'd be better if they'd just send you a new one, but I know they have to confirm that the original broken, etc, etc.
I'll be in the market for a new alternator very soon, I believe.
Main reason why I would just get the 140 amp upgrade from Auto Zone. Replacement would be on the shelf and installed on the same day. If he had been on the road in Timbukto he would have been SOL. AZ's are every where and open seven days a week and have a lifetime warranty.
Or go to any international truck dealer and get a 230 amp prestolite they use on the VT365 medium duty trucks and cab/chassis. Same warranty amd they usually have them on the shelf.

Gotta be carefull with that though, I've seen $299 to $549 forthat bad boy.
Yes, that's true, including shipping and taxes in Canada, I am at $500. But the reality is, I would pay 350 to 400 for a 140 amp at Ford, and a reman is over 300. We just don't get as good of prices as you guys down south. Besides, I can't be changing alternators every time a reman fails and I travel a fair bit and the parts places are not consistent. Using very heavy cable upgrades and really happy with this one, my brother got one too. Hits fully charged fast, can't wait to see what happens with the trailer batteries hooked up too and see how fast it can charge those up.
