I have a 1996 F-350 with a stock 7.3, E4OD. This is a rebuilt tranny with 15,000 miles on it, with a shift kit and RV cooler installed at the same time. This truck is not driven hard and to date has not had any load other than itself. I have begun to experience TC slippage, finally getting a flashing OD light. I am running 300 RPMs over normal speed in final drive. I took it to one shop and they basically said, "New Tran. and TC." Went to another shop and they said TC clutches slipping and would cost about $500.00 to pinpoint problem. I know there are some electronic valving in the body. Is anyone able to advise me as to valve packs that I might purchase and install to end this problem? I just hate to spend money with a shop that can tell me anything they want. Thank you.
you may only get the converter slip code, which just tells you what you already know.that it's not locking up when it should.
before you do much, pull and clean the solenoid pack plug with electrical cleaner and apply dialectic grease.this is often, all that's required.
if you do put a code scanner on it,then look for other solenoid fault codes and or the tot code.these pins can also be dirty at the same time and are a helpful indicator that the plug just needs to be cleaned.
now you know where not to take your trans for repair when it's really needed though and warn your friends and family about.
