Tranny Trouble

I need some help. I have a 1996 F-250 with 7.3L power stroke. A few weeks ago the trans began to shift hard and the od light gegan to flash. The truck has 300,000+ miles on it without any major mechanical issues. I fugured no big mystery. I took it to a local shop and they tried to sell me a new trans for 2500.00. I thought that thats a lot of money for a long in the tooth work truck. I had a different shop clear the codes. The truck drives and shifts great. As usual since I bought it new. 1 month later, while pulling a trailer, the tranny started having some minor slippage. Light came on again. Cleared the code again and 20 minutes lated light on again and full line pressure. After this, I pulled the transmission and tore it down. Interior showed no signs of excessive wear or damage. Seals in good shape, except for the torque converter to pump seal. Re-built, re-assembled and re-installed without any problems. Drove for 3 miles, flawlessly. Then shut off for 10 minutes. When I fired it back up, no2-3 up-shift, light on. Loaded truck on a trailer and transported to transmission shop. The pulled code, indicated bad ECM. Replaced ECM. Same shifting problem, but no light. Transmission shop guy suggested that a bad shift solenoid may have caused the ECM problem.

I would like one of you propeller-heads to give me some guidance. I'm baffled.

Does anyone know a procedure for testing the solenoid?

what were the codes when you cleared the ecm the first 2 times
this can be as simple as a bad ground or the manual lever pasition sensor
MLPS is mounted on shift linkage at the trans
check out www.fordfuelinjection.com
go to down load file for mlps info
