If the leak sound you describe began in the mileage you describe after you had the up-pipes replaced, chances are pretty good that something else has given way. Either way, if it is something caused by poor workmanship on the part of the tech who did the work, they more than likely should correct the issue at little or no cost to you. But you won't know until you bring it back to them.
As far as SCT being used as a code reader is concerned, even if you do have codes logged, the most it will tell you is you have a turbo under-boost issue present (if the leak is large enough to cause a significant boost loss). But even at that, that still isn't going to "tell you" where your leak is.
I forget the name of it and I can't find the receipt, but it was the blue colored boot the attaches the big steel pipe to the turbo. He said he inspected it when he replaced it on the previous repair, but did not think it warranted replacement. I had him replace the intercooler boot ( I think that is its name - connects the same steel pipe near the radiator) as well since it is the same material and same age as the other.
Had a nice long talk with the actual mechanic, and he feels we have replaced nearly everything that tends to be a problem on this engine. We felt much better about it after speaking directly to the actual mechanic.
Thanks for the info. Helped me to understand what was going on.
Lauraj,
Glad you got it squared away! Hopefully it will stay fixed for awhile.

One of my first trips with the fifth wheel camper after I got my truck the CAC boot blew off the turbo, pretty obvious when I lifted the hood. That plastic tube I didn't find until I changed my oil cooler, seemed a bit more "sneaky".
