Excursion woes

I have a 05 Excursion (6.0) and I absolutely love it. All thats been done to it was an EGR delete and some bigger tires. I have recently heard a super loud whistle, which is higher pitched than the normal turbo noise. I never saw any loss of power, but I wanted to get it checked out anyway. I took it into the shop and the guy tells me that he can't find any loose clamps, cracks in the Y-Pipe bellows, holes in the exhaust...nothing. He said it may be the turbo "death whine" He also tells me that he saw the drivers side headgasket leaking and the rear of the passenger head gasket also leaking.

I know head gaskets are about $160 per, and I would have to get new studs as well. Sounds like I might also be out on a new turbo. I know the labor for the headgaskets is going to be out of this world.

What are my options here? I just cracked 100,000 miles. Should I try to get a new crate motor and turbo? Should I go for a repair? Should I try to get a new Excursion?

Thoughts?

Does the whistle increase pitch or loudness as rpms increase?

What exactly is leaking from the head gaskets?

The whistle does change to some degree, but not much. Its really shrill and goes away after a while. Thats why I thought it was something like a loose V-Band clamp that just expands after it gets hot. The guy didn't say what was leaking, only that they were leaking. He also stated that he has done the head gasket repairs on trucks only thus far and isn't quite sure if he'd have to take off the whole excursion body to do the work or not. The guy is a friend from the Supra community and does a lot of diesel work. I don't think he is out to mess with me, but this isn't a "diesel" shop per se.
