Another question regarding the transmission. I saw another FTE'r on here building a '48 with a 460 and T56 six speed manual. I've done some research on these, and www.promotionpowertrain.com offers either mechanical or hydraulic clutch options with multiple ratios for 1st, 5th, and 6th gear. The trans can be built as strong as I'd ever need. I actually have their TR3650 in my Bullitt Mustang, and it's rated to 700+ft/lb. I like that the T56 has 2 overdrives, and I could get the lower 1st gear, and the taller overdrives, with a low ratio rear diff (4.10 or 4.56). My question is, while it is a tough transmission, would the overdrive gears hold up to towing? I figure possibly towing in 5th gear, and cruising empty in 6th gear. This would be an expensive option if it'll work, but the 6 speed dual overdrive manual trans is really appealing considering I know the gas mileage is going to suck.
If you must have a manual transmission either one is fine but if you can live with an auto, the C6 with a Gear Venders OD is great. They handle lots of torque.
Yep, I have a C6, and was looking at the gear vendor unit, but brand new they're $3K. It's almost a wash with the T56 by the time I have the C6 gone through. It's more of a hey, that would be cool than a have to have deal.
