What weights/cams are you using - 10..13...15...18?
For starters, you could use a medium (silver) and a heavy (blue)....I think those be the colors for the "stiffness."
Do you also have an adjustable vac can with the limiter?
It is the duraspark 1. The kit came with 5. Did I get the wrong one?
No, you got a kit...the different tension (colored) springs allows you to change the rate (RPM) at which your mechanical advance comes in and ends. The number on your dist. cam/weight will tell you where you're set for distributor timing....10, 13, 15, etc. You should also have an instruction sheet telling you what springs do what and at what RPM.
Example - if you use 2 springs with the least tension (color ?), your mechanical advance might come in at, say, 800 RPM and be "all in" at 1800 RPM. That's just a "fer instance," mind you.
All I have ever seen, for Ford, is the Mr. Gasket kit. With that kit you don't want those two springs in the dizzy at the same time. I tried it and the 360 pinged constantly at 65 and especially so when slight accelerating. Since I acquired many different springs from Fords I looked for a medium tension spring. I used that plus a light to run the 360. That plus one jet size larger eliminated my pinging.
Have you got a part #? As far as i'm aware...there is nothing for the Ford distributors other than the Mr. Gasket 925D.
Hmmm...I don't see much difference in distributor weight springs between GM/Ford - such that they have to be proprietary. They work for me. Maybe someone with more experience in dist recurve could say for sure. With that in mind, Accel has a spring only kit (GM) #31041, 31042. Mr. Gasket (GM) #928G. Crane (Ford) 99607-1, (GM) 99601-1.
I suppose one could use the Ford Mr. Gasket p/n (925D) and then bend/adjust the spring tabs according to their recurve desires.
Personally, I like the option of using different combination of springs rather than bending the cam tabs.
