Ok anybody have a fix for spark knock. I have replaced the plugs and no improvement. Ford dealer ran diagnostics and no error codes. Check engine light has NOT come on, but under acc at highway speeds sounds like detintation might occur. Fuel quality 87 vs 91 make litte difference. Suggestions?
MAF = Mass Air Flow sensor.
It's located in the air intake right after the air filter.
Do a search on this forum, there are plenty of posts of how to do the procedures.
Good luck
Phil056, thanks for the info. I found the MAF, the two thin wires inside where black. Cleaned them off and I am back in business. No more ping/knock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder why the dealer never made mention of this or performed this simple procedure instead they got me for $280 for a new set of plugs. The forum is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
I tried it all, begged the dealer to fix my cra cra crazy spark knock. Double carbon clean had no effect, dealer tells me that is common and there is nothing they can do...I can't believe it.
Tried fuel system cleaner, different brands of gas, higher octane. All to no avail.
Got my 100k mile 1997 F-150 4.6L purrin like a kitten now, wanna know how???
All those gas/cylinder treatments affect things that are way down the pipe long after the MAF has given your computer flawed data about the intake air flow and temperature.
