I have a 2004 F-250 with 6.0 and 100K on it. No programmer, truck is stock other thanK&N cold air intake.<o></o>
Checked my oil and level it was ½ way on the dipstick. It is usually full. Looked at coolant in degas bottle and insteadof the gold color it is now the color and thickness of a chocolate milkshake. My reading makes me believe the oil coolerhas developed a leak and is allowing the oil into the cooling system.<o></o>
I have gotten pricing to just change the cooler and flushthe engine and cooling system and install new fluids for $1.7K. The bulletproof can be done for 3.5K thatconsist of new Ford upgraded oil cooler, EGR cooler delete, ARP head studs, rebuildturbo, machine heads.<o></o>
Is it worth it to spend 3.5K on a truck this old or should Ijust spend the 1.7K to get the cooler replaced? <o></o>
Either way I’m going to have to get a loan for either amountso this is a lot of money for me.<o></o>
Seeking opinions of what other folks have done in thisposition. <o></o>
Does anyone know what cause the oil cooler to leak?<o></o>
I would just do the oil cooler, flushes and either new egr cooler or perhaps an EGR delete if you don't have emissions testing in your area, not due to the age of the truck as much as if it ain't broke don't fix it ( more or less meaning head gaskets )
I'm confused about Bulletproof cooler and upgraded oil cooler.
You can get an upgraded (one more row of cooling fins) OEM cooler, add a bulletproof EGR cooler (unless your cooler is round meaning it's an 03 engine and already damn good), and call it a day. If your headgaskets are good and you're not running a tuner then change the cooler and go.
My truck has 190K and I'm building an engine for it, so unless your truck is trashed it's well worth an oil cooler.

Thanks Mustang - I would like to run a programmer that was why I was thinking about doing the head studs while the top of the engine was already apart.
And go back to the stock air, rid the K&n, for the Turbos sake
Thanks o4BadFord
I would like to put the stock air filter back on it but the person I brought the truck from threw the original air box, ducting, and fittings away. I would have to figure out what arts I need and buy them.

Thanks Npccpartsman. I have convinced myself what ever I do I'm going to add a coolant filter
We can help you change the oil cooler. Parts are cheap (ie no loan).
Where is your ICP sensor located (passenger valve cover or under the turbo)?
Bismic,
I think I could do the oil cooler change and egr cooler delete. It doesn't look to bad after looking at the videos just time consuming. I do not know the best way to flush the engine block and radiator.
I could also add a coolant filter kit.
Thanks,

Flushing the cooling system is the easiest part, you just need a good sized jug of simple green and about 20 gallons of distilled water to go along with your 4 gallons of coolant.
I am getting the Bulletproof oil cooler for my 04. I will use a egr delete with it. I will use the stock oil filter. I don't tow or work my truck much. Its my daily driver. I just want to get rid of Fords sorry oil cooler.
For the water with coolant in it try Evaporation to reduce the amount
that you have to take in. An old metal pot and a little bit of heat
Goodwill would be a good place to get a big pot. You can use an old
colman camp stove for the heat. That way you should be able to
get rid of a lot of the water and not worry about it.
