At least if there was a gash to the leg this time there could have been an exciting exacto knife story instead of unknown sharp edge chasing a truck--not to discount the murder scene post....
I have not had a single negative from police about the tint on my truck. I did have a minor problem (didn't write me a ticket) with no rear bumper. That was 1 officer & 1 time. I think he knew I wasn't putting a bumper on, ticket or not.
That poses an interesting question.. rear bumpers were optional when these trucks were on the market. In fact, I recall up to around 1987 that rear bumpers cost extra and buyers weren't required to install one.
Can State/local law enforcement compel a vehicle owner to install one even though it was not originally equipped with one?
it's still unknown what gashed my leg , me and the wife looked at the truck and couldn't find anything . there was a splash of blood on the aluminum sill plate but no sharp edge .

That was somewhat my argument. I told him I believed a pickup was not required to have a rear bumper since it was optional equipment. He told me to check the law. I did. This was in IN & their law says a truck registered as 7000 lbs (the lightest plate you can get for a truck) is required to have a rear bumper. I do not remember the cut off but I think a 9000 lb plate did not require a bumper. I almost bought 9000 lb plates just to avoid a problem. Of course then it would have been "What are you doing with 9000 lb plates on what is clearly a 7000 lb truck?"
I learned though in IN you are not required to register a truck per it GVW. I had a single axle dump with a 5 yd bed on it. 32,000 lb truck. Well at 26,001 you are required to have a CDL to drive it. The lady at INDOT asked me what I was using the truck for. I was hauling dirt about 3 city blocks out in the country from my neighbors house to mine. She told be to get a 26000 lb plate just don't get caught with the truck weighing more than 26000 lbs. She even hinted that given the area where I lived registration was not needed. You either knew where you were going or really really lost to end up in the area I lived.

Build a good story around it. "You were out in the desert & not really paying attention while walking along when a rattlesnake bit you. No knife, the best you could find was an old rusty can lid that you used to cut your leg letting the venom out before too much got into your system."
That was off the cuff but build a war story out of it. When they put my defibrillator in they normally do a horizontal cut. I asked for a vertical so I could tell folks I got stabbed there. The Dr. looked a bit odd at that request but I have a basically vertical scar.
You & your wife were scuba diving off the Barrier Reef when a small bull shark. Thing couldn't have been much bigger than 2 1/2 or 3' got you from behind. You barely made it back to the boat before the water was full of sharks that smelt the fresh blood. This 1 you can modify to be a feral hog (just not at the Barrier Reef) or alligator. Put that imagination to work!

I ordered my '99 F350 WITHOUT a bumper.
I did order the 6" drop bumper from the Fomoco catalog, but since these were the new trucks it took about a month for it to show up at the dealership. This picture is actually about April of 1998(when they actually released the "new" 1999's).
Has it helped keep the cab cooler as far as you can tell?
Imagine it's not too bad to do. Looks good too.
My '67 has no bed light. Must have been an option.
YES FUNNY , but I'll stick to my runaway truck story .
Ok but not near as interesting as being bitten by a shark scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef. You knew you were in trouble when the captain introduced himself as Captain Quint (the guy who hunted Jaws) or the boat was named Orca (Quint's boat)
not sure yet only moved truck from garage to street after tinting , I am 6'2" so i have to bend my knee pretty good and with injury it's not fun .
i'll be working on it again this weekend to start my mustang tank install .
