Woke up to the power going off just before 3:30 this morning. My wife got up to go find another flashlight. THe wind just picked up real fast and hail started coming down. It was sounding pretty hard. I looked at my watch while still in bed. The house suddenly shook and then the window shattered and hailstones almost golf ball size pummeled me. The glass flew right across the room and all over the bed. Lucky my wife got up, she would of got the most glass thrown on her. I received a cut to my right elbow and bottom of foot when I stepped on it getting out of the bed.
Our mighty protectors were all crowded around us.
We could not see anything past the windows. It was coming down so hard. I said this is like a tornado. We were about to go down stairs. In the basement water was pouring in from rain getting past the window seal.
It finally slowed and stopped. I went out to survey damage. It was weird. No hail damage to the cars or trucks, but you could see where it hit the cars, it removed dirt where they hit.
The centre of the house you can see dents in the wood of the house, the closer to the front and back the dents lessen.
I have two bird houses with Tree swallows, one was down the other still intact.
Today have fix window. Move furniture out of room and dry up bed matresses and vacuum rugs. Insurance not sure yet to file.
That sounds like a nasty way to be woke up. Glad you are okay. It sure is strange how hail goes through, one place is hammered and 20 feet away is fine.
Doing clean up today. Finding glass in every nook and corner. Tearing up the rug. Had plans to do that anyways. Just mother nature made the plans come a bit sooner.
May stilll have to make a claim. The matrees has a cut and there probally is fine peices of glass in the matress. The A/C is pretty dented and the fins are all bent so that affects the function of the window unit. So tallying it up we may have a couple thousand in damage. I'm not concerned about the rug it was old and thread bare in places. Just the window and bed and ac are the main things.

I don't envy you the clean up. Just a hint on the insurance though. Claim everything you can right up front, including the rug, and clean up time / materials. The insurance company will say no to plenty of things, so get what you can where ever you are able to.
true in some cases RVOOPS, but sometimes its better to take a personal hit. what they offer after you pay the deductable, and what your premiums will increase almost make it better to pay out yourself unless its really badly damaged...
Well I tore up half the rug and scrapped the glue off. Still lots of glue and some carpet yet. Will do it later.
Went to Delisle. One person had their roof on the house and attached gaage tore off. Lots of trees down. The fire cheifs daughters car was crushed by a large poplar tree.
The trees were twisted not snapped. They say all indicators are we had a small tornado go through and never touched down. 10 miles east of me they got hit with fist size hail. When I drove to town saw 3 steel grain bins laying in feilds no where near any farms . One was just a 1/2 mile from my place. No one knows where it came from, for none of my closest neighbor have these. Thereis one about a mile and 1/2 from us, but we could not go see if it was that one. The road is a quagmire right now.
Also saw a combine header all broken into peices laying across a feild. It was all broken up. Where it came from was also a good question, for there was no farm in that feild right up to the town. There is a farm on the otherside of town.
A neighbor across the road had several large trees down that were 3 ft thick. The weirdest thing was seeing 2 pine trees standing side by side and the bark was all stripped off right to the top. The pine needles still on the trees and the other trees beside them still with bark. Just weird how this can happen.
They reported that the hail was coming straight across not down at any angles. That would explain how it traveled through my bedroom to the hallway. Also probally how the window broke.
I'm all played out fromthe work cleaning the bedroom to use tonight and some of the yard. Still got stuff to clean in the yard.
As for insurance that is to be seen yet. Tryed calling the insurance got no answer. So have to wait til Monday.
Wow Glen, all we got was some real bad wind for afew hours and a spot of rain. Our power never even went off.
Good to hear you, the Mrs and the ''mighty protectors'' are ok.
Wow!! What a night!! Glad to here you guys are OK! Last year my parents had some hail damage to there house and yard. Insurance was actually very good to them. It paid for half the shingles on the house, new vinyl siding on the one side that had holes from the hail. It also paid for the stain and there time because the hail stripped the stain off the fence and deck. They had just stained them a couple of weeks before the storm. I guess it all depends on how much damage there is, what your deductible is and how much your premiums will go up.
i was doing some work in a new bar last year when some hail came through. the guys had jut finished the scratch coat of stucco the day b4. it got quite beat up from the hail. that stuff sure can do a lot of damage in a hurry!!
