So there I was doing a simple oil change and when I took the filter out I noticed the little spring on top, in the center of the big spring (oil filter adapter) cocked to the side with the little plastic piece broken.
does anybody know if I can replace just the oil filter adapter (spring thingy that goes in the middle of the filter when installed) or do I have to replace the whole filter bowl assembly? And if so where would be a good place to get this part? Thanks.
The standpipe comes out with a single T27 torx bolt. Just watch for the spring and valve from the drainback when you pull it, and make you you look down and pull the right screw out. The other two identical T27 torx bolts down there (there are three total) are for another valve, don't pull those, they're the ones that are both in one piece of metal. Look for the one torx head by itself. Take out the one bolt and the standpipe should pop out.
So basically; remove the bolt. Pull straight up on the black stick, the stand pipe comes out. Put spring/bushing back in the hole if it comes out. Push new standpipe in. Install the one bolt. Easy peasy.
I'd buy this from a local dealer to get back on the road.
The "bowl" isn't really a bowl, the upper filter housing/secondary fuel filter housing is separate from the base of the oil filter. The base is part of the oil cooler assembly, the upper is held in by 4 screws and three fuel lines, you can't booger that up on an oil change unless you strip the threads for the cap out.
