Compact Oil Filter
Compact Oil Filter
Anyone know of a Compact (Short) oil filter that will replace the Fram PH8A , and other brands used on Ford engines. I have a clearance problem with an engine swap and would like to find a short filter to replace the PH8A size filter.
Yes, the Fram PH43 oil filter is the direct replacement. a 1/2 quart filter as compared to the PH8A which essentially is a 1 quart filter.
You can also use a Motorcraft FL300s oil filter
A WIX 51068 Oil Filter
A STP Oil Filter #STP2832
A PUROLATOR Oil Filter, #L25195
BOSCH Oil Filter #045 1103062
NAPA GOLD Oil Filter #1068
Hope that helps. Any other brands you might be interested in let me know. I have a oil filter master catalog as thick as a New York City phone book!

R-West, off the top of my head, the Motorcraft FL-299 is a longer FL1-A filter, and used on various Ford F-450 F-550 commercial trucks. Has the same base and thread specs, and is about 5" - 6" longer than the FL1-A. Sometimes NAPA stores carried them, but you probably will have to buy them at a Ford dealer parts dept. Ford tractor parts dept. or a fleet maintenance shop that sells parts to retail customers (unless you have a wholesalers' license) When I have more time, I'll check my book for more brands and part #s for you.

Thanks, Ed. The ol' gray matter is failing me, I guess.
Using the handy WIX filter lookup table http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlookup/index.asp , I found the FL299 crosses to a WIX 51773, or NAPA 1773.
I had a guy squawk at me one time for using a NAPA/WIX filter on my motorcycle, so I said to him "hey, look at the front fender of a typical NASCAR race car. See that WIX decal on there? If they count on it to protect their $100G engine, I think it'll work okay on my bike."

Also, would you beleive that WIX oil filter used in NASCAR Race Motors are simply WIX Racing oil filters that you can purchase at any authorzed WIX distributor.
Our local Post Office used WIX oil filters on their entire FLEET, from regular mail trucks, Caravan cargo van mail trucks, including the USPS big rigs you see on the freeway. Plus everything in between. You know the servere service any mail vehicle encounters, and they trust WIX.
I would never hesitate to use a WIX oil filter.
