just put in new starter ( the mitsubishi) and that part of my continuing r/r on this truck is done... so... started it up and diesel started coming outa the return lines at the caps. well, we have ordered the new return line kit $61.00) but i wish this were not happening. did being parked all winter with radical temp changes have anything to do w this? 20 below for a week and truck was parked because steering box had sprung a leak.
the whole fuel syx is all rebuilt so we we shocked when that diesel started running down about 4 of the injectors and into the valley and the ground. this was fresh diesel that replaced what had sat in it all winter....
just wonderin if anybody else has had this happen. it wasn't leaking before. 😳
It could be from sitting. It sounds like the caps and lines are pretty new so I'd probably just replace the o'rings and see if it fixes it. You can get viton o'rings cheap the size is A111. If it fixes it then the return kit you just ordered can be a spare for next time.
that sounds like it to me too. it was really disconcerting to see all that fresh new diesel squirtin out.... can u get those in like autozone, napa etc or are they special catalogue items? i sure would like to save the dinero and still have my truck in safe working condition.. 🚘
I bought a viton o'ring kit from Harbor Freight that had that size in it. I heard that you can get them from Tractor Supply, but i've never looked. The kit I bought was 8 bucks and i've used some of the other sizes on various parts of my truck.
I'm not sure if the big box parts stores sell them or not.
the good news is we found the new o rings from the install kit wehas bought last year when we replaced alla injectors n ip.... they were stored in a baggy with the press washers we dint need either, since the new nozzles came w all that!
first light tomorrow will go thru the procedure of installing these. it'll b worth the tedium to save money. time crunch here prevents ordering or searching for vitons.
i read the info on vitons and one day will get them. sure mentioned weather stress etc that causes those to fail... need truck tip top. we're haulin our horses on an extended camping vacation... thanks for the great input, you guys...💩😎
Glad to hear you found some o'rings. Make sure you lube them before sliding them over the injector. It will help prevent them from getting nicked. Petroleum jelly works good for this.
YESSS!!!! that part worked. vasalined them and they slid right in the groove. also glad we has put anti sieze on injector threads. they were not hard to pull out. of course theres only 100 miles on the whole fuel syx rebuild.
well.... started er up and....DAYAMMM!!!! still leaking! the return lines seeping like a soaker hose. also a result of breakdown from sitting/ harsh weather?????
ok i still have the return line kit on order because no one sells the return line special hose separately .... everybody says because of the older shade tree trucks only can get kits instead of separate items. i dont have tome to order online because of the deadline.
any more ideas? well i will suck it up and buy the frillen kit and add to my diesel repair box..
but doesnt it have to be that special clothcoated lookin like in the kits? because of diesel being more caustic than gasoline?
hey if regular fuel line works i could return the damn kit and get my $ back.... i feel like all these parts stores and even the diesel shops are messin with me saying nobody carries that outside of a kit for the old idi trucks.😬😟
I've heard that you should use diesel rates line and I've also heard you can use standard fuel line as long as you don't run bio diesel. I had to replace the line coming off the top of the ip in a pinch and used regular fuel line. That was almost a year ago. I haven't had any problems. I'll pull it off and check the inside to see if its failing.
well! heres the deal!! 😼
i called around ( research is Always good) and will go for the reg ol fuel line. start up truck and if there are no leaks ..... wa-laa! if there are leaks i will use the kit for prob replace t's. BUT i think we may do ok. will keep u posted. this is getting interesting....
ya think the cloth stuff on the outside is some kinda insulation for temperature extremes? hmmmmm... the tank had about 15 gal of diesel that sat over winter ( had stanadyne in) but it di kinda change color. again- not wanting to screw up new rebuilt clean fuel syx we drained the tank n in fresh ( w stanadyne)
will see how it goes.....
well the kit won... and omg the leaky lines were all broke down inside. the new lines are in and NO MORE LEAKS!!!!!! so sucked up the $77.00 and added to my diesel parts collection. 😛
