1987 e 350 diesel

I have a 1987 E350 diesel would like to know what engine do I have. It has a senolid type controler not a pencil type. How can I tell the difference from a 6.9 and a 7,3

If it's factory it'll be a 6.9, '87 was the last year for the 6.9 and the first year for the solid state glow plug controller.

7.3 v[s 6.9

thanks for the info. next does the first 7,3 have the injectors outside the valve covers, thanks again I WILL LOOK FOR THE NUMBERS TOMARROW

Yes, the 7.3 and 6.9 IDI are externally physically identical.

The 7.3 power stroke is a completely different animal, the identical displacement can case some confusion.

Thanks Chevy Eater I found the numbers first number is 73. next question is what is IDI. I will also need a a/c bracket.ck my local salvage yard and ebay didnt have any luck.I found this E 350 in a closed school bus factory 15 years ago no vin tag no title never driven. It was about 10-12 years old when I bought it. Never could get a title.It was never shown to be mfg. Now I bought a 1953 ford coe to put on it.I WANTED TO POST PICT. CAN I DO IT ON HERE THANKS
