86 and newer are the better 6.9 blocks.
as far as power the 7.3 has a little more,
and I believe they all had a t-19, which is stronger than the ZF...but you dont get the overdrive
6.9 and 7.3 have no noticable differents in power.
6.9 has 170HP @ 3300RPM
7.3 has 180HP @ 3300RPM
I think it's the T19 (not sure) someone will chime in with the sure answer. And either one are much stronger than the ZF5, the ZF5 is alluminum and the T19 is all cast-iron. Dave Sponaugle has a 4 speed with over 450,000 miles on it, with nothing done to it!
what kind of mpg does 6.9 4 speed get?? is it a granny gear transmission?? Someones selling a beater for $1000 or best offer f250 4x4. I'm wondering if it's a good deal
It's got a T-19 4-speed manual transmission. The T-19 has a synchronized granny gear and the T-18 doesn't (I think).
Fuel economy will vary with the gearing in the axles. I have 4.10 gears and a T-19. I went ~260 miles on 3/4 of one tank of fuel at 55mph tacking 2450RPM in 4th gear. I don't even know how big the fuel tanks are in these, so I didn't calculate the fuel economy.
Other than the turbo, our trucks are almost exactly the same thing.
My average is 12.
I bet if you scaled yours even empty there is a lot of difference.
Then you figgure going straight up half the time. Both takes horsepower and that equals fuel. lol
