My 09 6.4 has been drinking diesel fuel strait up with no additives. So what's the story? Do you use an additive to make make you truck run better? If you do, what one? Where do you buy it? Why do you use the one that you use? Rate it from 0-10. Thank you.

I run Diesel Kleen's grey bottle from spring til late fall and love it. I use the white bottle in the winter. I started using in w long time ago in my 7.3L Excursion. The main reason I do this is because it adds lubricity to the engine parts. With the diesel fuel low in sulfur now, the engine(injectors) doesn't get lubricated near like they used to. I've seen a 1/2 mile per gallon improvement in my X, so I 've ran them since my '10 F350 was new. Lots of guys run this type, Ford's cetane booster or a few others. Bottom line is, the engines do not mind it, the injectors stay lubricated and the 7.3s actually run a little more quiet with the additive in there. It has also reduced the regens in my 6.4L by adding mileage between the regens and by shortening the regens at the same time. Higher cetane, a little less soot. You can buy Diesel Kleen at WalMart, Tractor Supply and most any national auto parts stores. To me, it's like an ounce of prevention.
The primary reason to add additives is for lubrication of the pumps and injectors. Second reason is to boost cetane , thirdly is to keep fuel from gelling in cold weather. Many things are claimed about additives but that is the three top reasons.
I use Ford cetane boost.
Power Service DK, Gray Bottle. No noticeable difference. Just cheap assurance that the H2O is demulsified, pumps and injectors have a little extra lubrication and cetane numbers are up a few points.
I missed one or two times and the truck started to sound like an older diesel (louder and rough diesel noises)
Also nice to have several bottles with you if you accident put regular gas in her. (Did it once and never again will I fuel my cars up hung over).
LOL...
