does anyone know if theres any place that sells the replacement drivers side cab corners for the 53-56 ford truck that still has the gas neck cut out in them im wanting to keep mine original the way it is . ???? all im seeing is smooth ones would i maybe have to buy a smooth one and just cut my neck section out and mig it into the new corner ????
yeah i was kinda told by a few people that there not remaking the cab corners with the gas neck in them cause everyone is doing away with the tank like that and they are putting them under the bed and etc and im not that kind of person thats thrilled with relocating the tank and etc . i just whent down to my garage and re looked at my drivers side cab corner it really is not bad anywhere around the gas neck only about 2 inches around the bottom . so i might just cut that out and graft some sheet metal in there or just order a reg cab corner for that side and cut a half u so it will go around the bottom of the neck and mig it and etc .

Reason: missed a word .
I planned the same thing...but as I cleaned it up I found more rust areas so I ended up with about half of the cab corner cut out.
Still need to cut the U of the opening out then re-profile the edge. That is why I left so much of original metal around lip of opening to use as a guide. Will remove it when I get ready to weld it into place
Good work, odd I never seen rust creep up that high, dont feel bad I now
need two & trucks been inside since 54 so they rust in a heated shop?????
guess so
I can't imagine that moving the tank to the back isn't easier than that serious metal work... followed by the body work... moving the tank is just nuts and bolts...
It wasn't rusted that far up but it was rusted all along the bottom all the way out to where it curves in the back. The whole pocket was full of a rusted set of tire chains...which didn't help things. I wanted the cuts to be as straight as possible to make it easier to weld in new panel.
It's not that I couldn't move it...like you said its an easy mod...but it's a personal thing! I am trying to keep it looking as original as I can.
well it looks like i will be doing the same thing u did just buy a new cab corner reg for a 53-56 and cut it around my gas tank neck in the cab and mig weld it all up . im glad u had the same idea i kept looking in the catalogs and jsut seeing the reg cab corners with no cut out i was like well im a welder so hahha ill buy one and just cut a U in it to go around the neck .
