something sounds off on that one. Mine will usually drop a few degress when i just sit and idle. the truck has probly never idled longer than 10-15 min when it was hot out and it never got hotter than the 190*F that it normally runs at.

if my fan clutch is engaged then the engine is damn quite.....therefore i think the clutch is at least not stuck on.

you have your mechanical fan on though right Eric? that's moving air just unlocked.about like my e-fans on low/medium which is all it takes to make her idle 200* too.
she'd sit right there and peg the needle iv got no doubt with no fan on.just in the time it takes to go through a drive through window.about 5 mins or so.this is of course once up to operating temp.
i know my oil temps are running high.im curing this soon.i know the coolant will want to match the oil temps of course.but as far as i know, the oil temps at idle are not out of hand.just when towing heavy.my oil temp gauge is on it's way too.
you guys are starting to make me nervous here.

there are many components to the cooling system, that can have an affect on performance and cooling, brand of thermostat and the PO, that has changed the cooling hose routing or whether it came stock with heavy duty heater, or AC, type of antifreeze, some POs will install valves too the heater hose, ect. my 91 van has vacuum operated valves on the heater supply for both heater's ( it has rear heat) so in the morning if I didn't plug it in, I will turn off the heat, so the coolant only moves around in the engine, thus warming the engine quicker then turn on the heat when I hop in to leave. if your engine warms up slowly it is most likely the thermostat that is not closing tightly, allowing to much coolant flow all the time. this will also cause over heating at idle as the coolant flows thru the Radiator, to quickly to reduce coolant thempature

on mine, the only custom plumbing is for the second heater, which has its own circuit running from the drivers side head to the heater, and back to the other port on the top of the water pump, which is plugged on most people's engines. that means both heaters have fully hot water, not that it matters for the front heater, it barely heats by comparison. but it also means twice as much flow bypassing the thermostat, i don't know if that relates to my ease in getting warmer than we like - i installed it in winter when i cared more about getting heat into my interior than anything else.
