vacum hose question

vacum hose question

My 390 distributor has 2 connections.The front one is going to carb "front as is closest to radiator.Second on is going no where the is no nipple to be found.

Truck seems ok except for a backfire issue on hot days,runs fine ,idles fine,starts fine.
do i have correct distributor ?

Dizzy ID number is located on a tag (probably missing) and stamped on the base. Post what it is.

I don't quite understand what you mean here. Do you mean there is a vac line coming off the dist that doesn't connect to anything?

I know what the OP is speaking about inre to two connections, that's why I asked for the dizzy ID number.

Here's an old picture of what the dist on my FE looks like I'd get a better one but I keep that truck at my grandma's for when I fly up to visit her now.



Can't say if it's the original dist though.

Introduced in 1971 F100/350 (1967 cars), 12A091 Type 2 vacuum control valve installed. Some people removed the vacuum hoses, capped off the nipples they connected to.

Those were smog era dizzys, they had both advance and retard canisters....they were "retarded" to say the least (no pun intended)....

Ditch it and get a single can dizzy.
