I know this will sound silly, but im just trying to get the best gas milage I can outta this old beast. I know I know. Don't need to be mockd. I do know that you can tune them enough to improve the mpg even if it's just slightly. I'll work on rebuilding the carb for now while I keep looking for the intake.
I did find one on craigslist for $200. It's a performer 390. I did shoot the guy an offer for $175 and he said he'd consider it. So maybe i'll just go pick that one up. I've got a holley 650cfm carb sitting on a shelf in my garage that needs a home and what better home to give it then under my hood.
If that Holley 650 is what I suspect it is, then it's probably a double pumper (list 4777) if so, then you'll be taking a huge step backwards if you're looking for better fuel economy , Check the list number on the choke horn and get back to us. Or just check to see if it's a mechanical secondary or vacuum secondary. Mech secondary will be a double pumper. These will not improve fuel mileage.
I don't see how you can do that when the FE intake bolts are perpendicular to the head face. Never used a bead of sealer in place of the gaskets. End gap needs to be checked before doing that.
I've done both a number of times and it works great. If you haven't tried it don't criticise it. The all thread is not installed till the intake is almost touching the engine.

I wasn't criticizing it. So don't get your panties in a wad. I was questioning as to how it worked with the orientation of the intake bolts. I do the same thing on small block intakes (studs to drop it in place) but the bolts there are oriented differently.
I found a holley 4412 on craigslist for $25. Good deal?
He's also got another 2bbl but the only number on that is: c8tf-z a-788. Which is just a casting number right?
The 4412 is a 500 cfm. $25 is good for a parts carb. I'd have to actually see it to determine whether or not it's worth the effort to rebuild. The C8 carb I suspect is one of those governor'd FT carbs. Very few Fords came with Holley 2 bbls aside from the FT's after the mid 60's.
You're eventually gonna want to stroke that 360 out to a 390 (everyone does in the end) so save the money on the 2bbl stuff and save it for a 390 rotating assembly.
