My wife was driving on I-10 this afternoon and had a blowout on the Ex. Luckily I was only a few miles behind her on my way to school when i got the call. So it looks like when the tire shredded, it moved the exhaust pipe upwards, which in turn bent the rear quarter panel upwards. When i arrived the molded fender liner that goes around the rear tire was being cooked by the exhaust. I did manage to stick a tire iron in the exhaust pipe to bend it back below the quarter. I wanted to know if when that exhaust pipe was moved up by the tire blowing then moved back down by me did I possibly stress it enough that it would affect any welded pieces upstream? Taking to a body shop tomorrow. I did find out that since it was a michelin tire, if the damage was from an internal failure, michelin pays for the damage. I'll go take a pic in a few. Thanks.

no Vibration. sorry only a blow out dam AZ heat.
Yikes! That doesn't look good. I don't think it would have damaged the exhaust forward of the muffler. A quick look underneath will tell you if anything is bent.
Sorry to see your trouble DK. Looks like a lot of damage for just a bad tire. Makes me want to go inspect mine right now. Your wife done a good job to get it off the road without panicking or making matter worse. It's easy to goof up when a tire blows.

Looks like about a thousand bucks per inch worth of damage. Michelin tires are still worth every penny. Glad everyone is OK. As for the exhaust, you were itchin' fer an upgrade anyway...

Don't know the age of your tires but that's why I just spent almost $800.00 on new trailer tires that looked like new but hit 7 years old. Not only preventing the damage but the safety of the family and other drivers around you.
Ok so i got underneath it this morning and looked at where the exhaust pipe bent into. It hit all the rear ac lines inside the fender well especially the high pressure line. Its a miracle i didn't lose the charge or take out my compressor. We took it down to the ins company recommended site and the estimate is appx 5600.00. The exhaust pipe was bent from my new bilstein, and twisted. Im gonna save that piece for a wall ornament. looks like they will pay for the exhaust i want from riff raff since it is cheaper than fords. 4" turbo back with cat delete. I was told, and don't know if this is correct, but the estimator stated ford recommends replacing all ac lines from front to rear, orifice tube, accumulater. How much is a new ac compressor? I think i want one in there cause if it goes i dont want to have to unbury it before i swap it.
Man, if Michelin honors their warranty and pays that, tell them that they've won a customer from me...
Glad to see that your wife kept her cool. Blowouts are a bitch, and I've seen people absolutely panic and cause wrecks because they're too dumb to handle it.
