If you get a 1" spacer you need to get one that covers the exhaust hole of your intake manifold.
I was reading through this post and I have to put a spacer in place of the EGR plate. So if I buy a 1" spacer will that cover the exhaust hole? MS has no emissions test. Just some history on what I am running- I have a 1983 Ford F150 4X4 manual transmission, a 351W from a 1985 Bronco, Edelbrock model 9906 600cfm carb. Thanks.
Salomon - I just responded in your other thread. But seeing your post here my response may be incorrect. Do you have a separate EGR valve that mounts directly to a port on the intake. Or one that mounts under the carb? The latter can't be blocked as I suggested.
Gary,
Look at his pic in post#1.
I'm pretty sure his 351 H.O. has a gasket like this...
And that's a Holley 4180 carb, definitely not an Edelbrock.
Salomon, if you want to lose the EGR and are using an aftermarket carb, you should probably get a non EGR intake manifold like the Edelbrock Performer.
I'm confused. Post #1 is from Coryv4, not Salomon. But, if it is the HO then the block off is more difficult. I thought about trying it but replaced the manifold, as you suggested.
Having said that, I'm not convinced that is his problem.
My gosh, I'm sorry.
Gary, you are right.
I replied to the thread and then, when my pic was quoted, scrolled up only far enough to see that EGR plate again (not the poster's userid)
You may still be right - it may still be the 4180 on an HO. I've lost track of what Salomon has.
Well after reading all the posts and talking to friends back home I decided to buy a 1" spacer and try to replace the one already on the engine, which does have the EGR on a spacer which sits between the carb and the intake manifold. Well I started to remove everything and I found my problem...the person (i will no longer call him a mechanic) that I paid to get the truck running after the rebuild for me, didn't use the right gasket between the spacer and the manifold AND DID NOT TIGHTEN the carb down..at all!! I cleaned up the spacer with the EGR and the top of the manifold, put the right gasket on, put the spacer with the EGR on, another gasket for the carb, and then the carb and tightened it down and guess what?? It runs great now!!. Just for info, the emissions are no longer on the truck and the valve is blocked off, auto zone does have an egr blocking spacer, I just didn't need to use it. I hope this clarifies some of my issues. The gasket looks alot like the one above. Thanks for the advice all, you guys really helped out, I would have never looked at that.
Glad you got it fixed! But, you should still look at s.
I did all the hoses, The rest weren't nearly as bad as the one right before the fuel pump, but replaced anyway. Good call on that, you saved me some trouble down the road somewhere!!
