I just drove home a 1975 E250 camper van (chateau?) that has 85K miles.
It has an auto trans that doesn't shift out of first all the time and when it does it makes a weird noise. I think the trans is a C6 and the engine 351w.
The engine seems to run well, van has new brakes and a few other things. Van has A/C, after market 44 gallon fuel tank, propane system, fold out bed, sink, stove, no refer though. The body is mostly straight with no rust that I can see. It drove well at 30 mph in first for the 3 miles I drove it home.
I bought it to fix and sell, I think.
I'm kind of liking it now though...
Trying to troubleshoot the C6.
The more time I spend with this van, the more I think I will keep it for awhile.
Has anyone converted one of these to 4x4 using a donor f250?
for the c6, you should be aware that you can shift it manually by pulling the shifter to 2nd when you want to upshift to 2nd, and returning it to drive when you want to hit third. if that solves all your problems, its time to check out the vacuum line to the modulator on the back of the tranny.
as for 4x4 conversions, there are guys here who have, and a number of threads on the subject.
