I have a short block sitting here with the SAME EXACT damage on #5. Judging by the dowel there, that's either #1 or #8 though on yours. My cylinder head is completely reusable though....a few small nicks, but no other damage.
It also happens to be the third one I've seen that looks just like that. I wonder what is in the intake tract of these trucks that is falling out and causing that damage.....

how about this, less than 4000 miles on a complete overhaul by a professional builder..
