Econoline pickup tailgate

Hello to all! Newly acquired 1962 econoline pu, missing a tailgate, just thought I'd ask around if anybody got a spare willing to sell? Thanks, look forward to seeing more on here!

That's the rarest part of the old Econolines. Nobody makes reproductions. Expect to pay hundreds of dollars for a rusted out one, if you can find one for sale.

Many folks make their own.

Welcome to FTE

There are two different Econoline pickup tailgates.

One is 19 1/2" high x 50 3/4" wide, t'other is 23 1/2" high x 50 3/4" wide.

Recently, I found two of these tailgates at an LA LA Land wrecking yard, but didn't measure them.

They aren't going anywhere as they're laying on a shelf 10' off the ground, no one there knows what they fit and...they've been there since 1969!

Wrecker bought all the parts after Kott & Smolar Ford in Wilmington burned. They're NOS but have surface rust.

Next time I'm there, will measure, post the info into this thread. If it's what you want, will pass along the name and phone number.

The shorter tailgate was designed to be used without a rear bumper and be able to rotate down 180 degrees and not hit the ground. This allowed you to back up all the way to a loading dock.

Any leads appreciated! I can build one, as I have a surround and a nice set of doors from a van, can do a split setup, but original would be my first choice! Thanks

Econoline tailgate

Hi, Saw this old post and am checking to see if any of those tailgates were still available? Have a 67 5 window rear bumper delete, I believe it takes the short gate (grain gate). But would be happy w/a nice std. gate. Out on the east coast by DC. So shipping is involved. Contact, deadponies@yahoo.com
Thanks,
