I have 01 Excursion 7.3 PSD, 200K miles, outdated 90 HP Superchips tune, and bone stock other than the tune. It is smoking on start up and died at a stop light this morning. I am guessing it is time for new injectors. This is my wife's daily driver, we are in our 40s, and we tow a 4,000 lb. boat on the weekends. She said, "I would like a little more power, a little more smoke, and a little more rumble; but nothing obnoxious." I love that woman! I am thinking straight pipes, injectors and an up to date tune. What do you guys recommend?
Im sure you read the "read first" links at the top of the page...
I know everyone likes tailored responses but answering exactly the same opinionated questions ...
1st thing.
Ma in e sure everything is 100% hunky dory.
You need a scan tool to test stuff.
Without it your just guessing.
spend 370$ or so on AutoEnginuity...
Or spend 800$ or so on dp's infinity...
There are no cheap shortcuts.
Smoke is fr owned upon here.
It wastes fuel, gives diesel folk a bad name... and worst... destroys engines for nothing more than the "look at me" factor.
You could pull the valve covers and check oil spouts...
There is quite a few encyclopedia volumes tucked in the tech links...
Shutting off like someone turned the key off is electrical related. Perhaps a bad sensor like the CPS, or chaffed wires causing a short to ground.
Chaffed wires are free to check, so I'd start there. Check the wiring to the ICP sensor, IPR, and the wiring below and behind the 42 pin connector at the driver side valve cover.
If it just stalled once, there may not be a code stored. I recently had some issues with my CPS where it would stutter just once at highway speeds. It only did it every couple of hundred miles, but it never threw a code.
Tell her to pay attention to as many details as possible if it happens again. The more hints we get the better.

Once you get the stalling issue squared way, and a straight pipe or 4", I think your wife will agree nothing says "I love you" more than a DP Infinty.
