1952 F2 tailgate
I own a long bed 1952 F2 that was restored by the previous owner. It was a meticulous, stock restoration on a very solid, original F2. The only issue I found was that he used a 1950 tailgate. I bought a 1952 tailgate but when I got it, it was too small, most likely a short bed F1 tailgate. Does the F2 long bed have a taller/wider tailgate? If so, does anyone know where I may find one?
Thank you,
John

I didn't think the tailgates changed for the 8' Express bed.
Yes, the F-2/F-3 bed is wider and taller than the F-1 box so the gate has to be wider and taller.

The 48-52 8ft express bed tailgates are the same, so the 50 tailgate that originally came with the truck would have been correct.

John, why do you think the '50 gate is incorrect? Maybe the person used a gate from a different vintage truck.
The tailgates for the F-1 did change slightly, I think in the mid '50 model year when the boxes began to come with flat sides.

Maybe it was a Canadian thing (although the OP is in Florida) to get a different tailgate.

1952 F2 tailgate
I guess I had the right tailgate all along. I thought there would be a difference because the 51-52 F1 tailgate differed from the 50 F1 tailgate (chain bracket position).
Many thanks

The block letter Ford gate is a Canadian only thing. All the US production Ford gates thru '52 were script.

I was given the equivalent of the finger from a Mercury truck guy in Barry, Ont. once. It was only one and it didn't come with a tailgate.

Met up with a person who cared more about making a buck than just enjoying old trucks.
