I mounted one on top of the right side frame rail about 1 inch away from the inner fender panel . I only did it because when i changed from a standard transmission i never had a cooler in the radiator. If the radiator goes bad later i will replace it with one that has a cooler in it, no need for me to toss a good radiator until i need to.__
i wouldn't worry about adding additional heat to the radiator. assuming you have the factory cooler in the radiator, all of that heat will go through the radiator anyway.
if it still bothers you though, put an inch or so of clearance between the condenser and the aftermarket cooler. this will allow some cooler air to mix with the hot air coming off the trans cooler.
factory coolers on newer trucks are in installed as described above. i think dodge puts them between the condenser and radiator, or at least they did in the 90's.
get a stacked plate cooler, not the tube and fin type ... they are MUCH more effective. OE's use a stacked plate FWIW.
I put a frame mount trans cooler on the right side of frame, under passenger door. 23in long two pass cooler. its in the breeze and I don't do any off roadin so not worried about damage. Still figurin out a temp sensor/guage set up. so far so good.
