Transmission Cooler ??

Driving a F250 PSD pulling 14000 lb fifth wheel. Truck seems to carry the trailer fine, but I was wondering about advice on installing an additional transmission cooler. The stock cooler for the Autoatic transmission is quite small, and hidden mostly behind the bumper. Anyone have thoughts on this?

TIA,
Ben

Transmission Cooler ??

Ben,

Did your truck have the towing package installed when you purchased it? If so, then you have a transmission cooler that came installed with the package. Check the little cooler behind the bumper again, mine goes to engine oil not transmission. I didn't order the towing package, but I the engine oil cooler, the radiator for the air conditioner, a cooler that looks like it attaches to the transmission and the radiator for the engine. Guess that keeps everything cool under the hood.

Transmission Cooler ??

I have a 2000 F250 SD and looked 3 times before I found the Transmission cooler. It is located between the radiator and AC coils. It is quite large. The Ford service manager said that I did not need an addional cooler.

Transmission Cooler ??

Your truck should already have two transmission coolers, one internal unit in the cold side (bottom) of the radiator, and a series-connected external unit located between the radiator and the AC condenser.

I think the four visible coolers, front-to-back, are 1) power steering fluid, 2) AC condenser, 3) ext trans cooler, and 4) radiator.

The engine oil cooler appears to be an oil-to-water heat exchanger that taps from the cold coolant supply hose from the bottom of the radiator.

(I spne t too much tme crawling under my new F250 SD CC 4X2!!)

Hope this helps.
