I was wondering if anyone has ever put on a canvas camper top on their trucks. ive been looking at something like this for a while for my 2010 and decided itd be a lot better on my 1977 f150 4x4 if I were to go camping or just wanted to haul the dogs down to the river with me. I really like the supertop from besttop. but unfortunately they only make this for the 87-96 f250 in the long bed. I don't know if this would work or how comparable our beds are to this model year I realy don't want to drop 700-1200 bucks for something im gonna have to end up customizing to the point that ive got 2000 bucks wrapped up in it. any help would be appreciated. thanks guys.
I've got a tubing bender and welder and it appears relatively easy to fabricate the framing. The relatively expensive part is to have an upholstery shop create the canvas (Sunbrella) top with snaps, ties, and Velcro'ed straps.
But here is a simpler version and perhaps some motivation to replicate?
I actually just got an email back from soft topper. They have one that will fit our trucks. It's a fl 96 with the special ford rear panel. 689 dollars. Includes all mounting hardware and canvas top

Well help us out cowboy! Please post up their contact no., the part no., and other pertinent info and I'll include this thread in the tech info sticky for others who may be interested.
Softtopper.com yeah that's the part number. I emailed them this afternoon. Chck out their website and let me know what ya think
Way cool. I was looking at Can-back.com and the price made me wince. Softopper is more reasonable but I'm not so sure about the PVC coated material but it is definitely worth serious consideration.
I've added this thread to the tech thread and it'll be included in the next update.
PVC coating is what's on Army truck tarps with the tarp and bow system. The stuff lasts for years in sun rain, snow, everything pretty darn well. I've used the same ones in 130 degree heat and 30 below zero with no issues. As long as you don't let them flap loose (they'll shred as they beat themselves to death eventually) they're pretty tough.
ive been emailing the guys at softopper to see if what all options are available for these. if I can get enough people together on it maybe we can get a discount if we purchase some. hio what do you think? are there any other takers out there?
