2wd lift

first off, Ive done the search. Im looking for a 3in lift for my 2wd 68, its not going to be seeing climbing duty or mudding, but the occasional off roading (nothing serious, just camping off the beaten path). I really like the look of a lifted bump. The only one that I have found is the autofab 3in lift, but that bad boy is $900. If I had the extra cheddar I would spring for it, but im really just needing the 3in coil springs and some blocks for the rear. I can get my beams cold bent locally, since thats what the kit is offering anyways. Is there a taller stock spring that will give me my desired lift. Ive seen spring kits and airbags elsewhere for $450 and less, but those are for at least a 4in lift, too much for my rig. Thanks in advance!

Really the only "kit" you will find is the autofab one. I would look on more offroad forums like Off-Road Racing News » race-deZert.com in their classified adds you should be able to find an auto fab kit for about $400 to $500 used, i bought 2 and sold one for about that price so i know it can be done.

The springs you should be able to buy from anywhere, the hard part is know what part number to ask for. I bought mine from autofab for about $300, just springs. when i got them there were just skyjacker springs nothing special but mine were for the 5 inch lift for a f350 crew big block with tall coil buckets.

'gonna throw this out there cuz it's out of the box... it's been done before but not to the degree I would consider to professional standards....

Why not lower the suspension points (coil buckets, I-beam mounts, radius arms) with either fabricated pieces or an entire custom subframe to gain the additional height? Steering would be an issue but that may be surmountable using Autofab's modified linkages or custom linkages.

Food for thought?

Yeah, I've thought about that as well. I'd really like to go biggest lift without having to modify steering, which is probably 2.5-3inch. Maybe someone with more knowledge on lifts will chime in.

from what Im reading, the body lift is guaranteed to need steering modification. Im not quite sure what all a body lift entails, kind of curious how you line up the front body panels. Is it pucks the same as the cab and bed?

The front panels are also spaced with pucks.

Besides raising the body, the other items that need to be spaced include the steering shaft/column, front bumper, shift and clutch linkages, and brake lines (from the MC).

That's kind of what I was thinking, too much to do for a lift. Suspension lift sounds much easier.
