Question 67-72 Lift Kits

Hey guys,

i was just looking into lift kits for a 67-72 F250 standard cab 4WD. i have noticed that it is quite difficult to find these things, and on a previous thread someone put up skyjacker as the only people who have this lift available.

i noticed that they only have it in 4" kits and that the kits cost like $1000-1200!!! I thought full leaf suspension lifts were supposed to be cheaper??? Does anyone know if there are any cheaper kits out there???

also, i saw in JC Whitney there are add-a-leafs for a 67-72 F250 4WD for like $100 for the fronts and about $10-20 more for the rear. what else is needed to lift these trucks 3-4 inches??? Is that how most of you guys lifted your trucks, by piecing together a lift kit? You guys have probably gathered, i have never insatalled a suspension lift, i chickened out and had someone else install it on my Bronc.

last question...how hard are factory highboys to find nowadays? were alot of them made? if need be, i will have to find a highboy and lift it 2" or so, as i am planning for 325/80R16 X-Terrains for her. thanks for the help guys, looking forward to be out of the "SUV guy" category and back where i belong with a pick-up again!!

Every pre-77 or so f250 4x4 IS a highboy. There is nothing special about them. I bought 4" skyjacker front springs and made 8" blocks in the rear with B-7 5/8" rolled thread U-bolts. Went to les shwab with my shock length needs and had them look up shocks that would work. brake lines all reached fine. All together 4" lift cost under $300. bodylift was another $50 or so. The blocks in the rear suck, but I'm in the process of restoring another 70 F250 4x4. I'm having 6" springs made by the local spring shop and not running a body lift. The best thing to do is go talk to a spring shop. Places like 4wheel parts are a joke and don't really have a clue about anything other than jeep garbage. A good spring shop can build you anything and for 1/4 the price of a lift kit.

An observation

I think it's interesting that a thread about lifting gets no negative comments about " oh you're gonna ruin it, etc, etc" but let someone start a thread about lowering and watch out - the negative stuff comes out like a dam bursting. Me - I enjoy both, Wife has 2000 Ranger 4x4, and I have my lowered 67.

for CACWBY..

Hey i just saw your truck pictures the 67 f100. that thing is smokin'! I just picked up a 67 f250 and I was planning on doing the same thing. How'd you go about lowering your truck...do you know the differences in the f250 suspension and the f100?
Any input would be appreciated. ANOTHER 2 THUMBS ON THAT F100

Dustin,

So all you needed was the springs front and rear, longer shocks and longer U-Bolts? everything aligned ok, with 8 total inches of lift? i am only looking for 4-6 inches (enough to clear 325/80R16's) so if i ran some 4-6 inch leafs front and rear then got longer shocks and U-Bolts i should be ok, huh? thanks.
