Hello from Phoenix (Litchfield Park), AZ. Just bought a 2006 F-250 Powerstroke Lariat. I have owned a 2002 Cummins, and a 2006 Cummins. This is my first Ford and so far am very excited. I do not know anything about the history of this truck. I got a good deal on it but I am excited/nervous about what secrets will arise. I plan to be on these forums quite a bit and share my experiences as with this truck.
First Experience:
The owner only gave me one key, no key FOB and no code for the door. I called the local dealership just to inquire about these and they wanted to charge about $70 for each ($140 total). Hate dealers. Well thanks to these forums and youtube.com I was able to find out where the manufacturer code is for the door. And it took me a total of 5 min with a good flashlight.
Well nice to meet you all. Look forward to doing some maintenance with you.
better than the early models anyway. haha there not that bad. just got off on the wrong foot and have a few common problems. great engines once those issues are addressed.
Thanks for the welcome. And yes it is the 6.0. It has 131k, so hopefully most of the bugs have been worked out. The tranny still hasn't been done on it. That was a concern of mine because being a prior cummins owner they don't last long. What is the average life span for these trannys?
I will look throughout the forums but are there any infamous 2006 or 6.0 things i definitely want to check for right now?
the 5r110 trans behind the 6.0 and 6.4 is a toss up. sometimes you get a good one (hold 500hp+ in stock form) or you get a regular one. (still very durable)
from what I understand, the ford trannys are tougher than the dodge ones behind the diesels. 131k miles is still a young gun.
if you start modding the engine and putting down more power, you may or may not have to rebuild it. it all just depends. but I wouldn't worry about it until it starts complaining.
