While I agree with this 100%, unfortunately times have changed to where that doesn't happen as often as we would like to think that it does.

I get this all the time: "I can get this cheaper from the internet, or I can get it cheaper from the guy that works out of his home" etc. And yes, they may be able to get it cheaper there, but it can (and most often does) cost them more in the long run.

A lot of things are turning into commodity based. In that regard, it all becomes about price. People might prattle on about how they like quality etc, but they want their Wal Mart prices for top of the line work and I deal in a lot of custom work and that just isn't realistic unless you go to a hack that doesn't charge appropriately for the work, doing crap work and by the time that they are forced to close their doors, they have effectively destroyed the market for the other shops to survive, because the customers want a cheap product. Regardless of the fact that the hack that they went to was doing sub par work as well as giving out cheap prices.

OK.. well, maybe not "officially" 60-MPH, but certainly ones that are meant to be traveled over at speed, versus the kind you typically see at the entrance to a farm or oil well location, where you are stopped to open a gate. That's the whole reason for their existence: so you don't HAVE to stop when crossing a fence-line.

Just like any culvert or bridge, if the lead-in and lead-out transitions aren't properly designed and maintained, they can be quite the adventure.

As for the site itself, it wouldn't open in Firefox.... I actually had to get out Internet Exploder.... like... eeeewwwwww!

The responses that I could see: Bitter, party of one, your table is ready.

Yea, I'm used to the ones you cross when going onto a farm. I've never seen one that you could legitimately cross faster than maybe 20 MPH as the lead up and lead out pretty much turn it into a table top jump. lol Wouldn't recommend hitting it at any sort of speed unless you have a trophy truck.

I wanted to chime into this thread. But due to just how much it has struck a huge nerve with me, I think I will refrain from further comment for my own good ...........

Very true. But you've also got to realize that times are still tough for a lot of people. Bills and expenses keep going up and up but no one wants to pay their employees any more. Like you said, the internet has a lot to do with things as well but I don't see that as a negative at all. It's great to just be able to sit on your computer and shop around from multiple vendors for the best price. You would be foolish not to.

To me it's price and quality. It's gotten to be more about price and people care less about the quality of the product.

Their "ignorant" as to why paying this little bit more can actually save you more money then by getting this item over here that costs you less in the short term.

And then, after they have that bitter taste in their mouth with that cheap product, they come over to you for the better product, but they are floored at the price and surprisingly it might be a totally reasonable price at that for what they are wanting.

That's my issue.

And trust me, it's not easy trying to educate people, no matter how diplomatically you try to do it. Once the damage is done, it's hard to undo.

Now, bare in mind, I do custom work. That's going to be a little bit different then comparing prices for parts etc. Those really are a commodity item at this point unless your selling custom parts and/or parts for vintage vehicles or some other niche market.

I am still new to the site. I have 1 thread for my 6.0 and have gotten some help there and love it. Not being an Auto Mech I might be asking basic questions. And for me that is the way I should be asking. I was in the Air Force as a Mech on F-16's so while I know my way around a tool box and how to use the tools. I am learning a different frame and engine. I am glad I am here and able to get the support from people who know. I do not live in the United States so I have to trust what I read and learn to be able to do all the repairs I might need to do. I am all for doing it right the first time. I am also a Remove and Replace parts as needed.

Still buying tools and still learning. If it takes me 2 months to get the truck running and new parts installed so be it. But as I said before I am glad I can come on to this site and get the support I need.

A lot of forums that I'm on seem to be updated forum software lately.

It could have just been a scheduled downtime.

It opened just fine a couple of minutes ago and I was using Firefox 16.
