smog failed OBD
i just purchased a 2004 e350 van v8 5.4L i went to smog it for registration in CA. it came back fail because its "OBD system was not ready to test". the smogger who i trust as i have used him at his test only place for years said maybe the battery was disconnected recently and the memory was lost. i just had some work done on it before i ran it over 3 miles away to the smogger. the smogger said drive for 50+ miles in all types of driving and come back in a few days. does that sound right? anybody else have this experience? thanks. great board glad i found it.

Yup, that happened to me when I cleared an intermittent EGR fault by disconnecting the battery before taking our Caravan for a smog check. At least 4 of 7 test processes have to complete before the smog machine will start the test. It's not just miles but also start cycles so cut that 50 miles into errands.
