Took my 04 F250 in for inspection yesterday they hooked me up for emissions and got the not ready to test. I have never had a service engine light on or disconnected battery. My truck only has 26,000 miles on it and I bought it new.I have never had any problems with it at all.I drove it 50 miles last night and 70 miles today and still have not ready to test.Any help please.
(I know, it sounds stupid, but from what I hear the scanners get power from the vehicle, on these trucks it's the same circuit as the cigarette lighter)
When I hook up my scanner to my truck some of the test will not register until O2 sensors get to a certain temp. That is why I was asking how far you drove.
It's locked in their garage? Is this a reputable testing station? When I've had my vehicles smog checked, I always choose a location that does testing only (they don't have a shop that also does repairs). In my opinion, if they do smog checks and repairs at the same location, and the repair shop is low on business, they may come up with ways to fail a vehicle (or in your case, show an error that prevents the test from starting), so they can drum-up some repair work for the shop.
I'm not saying that is what has happened to your truck, but something to consider if you start to get the feeling something isn't right about the situation. The other posts are definitely things to consider as I've also heard of those too.
Good luck
On edit, an '04 with 26,000 miles, you should get it back to the dealer rather than having them working on it. It is still under warranty. But with your username "paytoplay", it leads me to think you may have some major mods that have voided your warranty already?
