iv gotta do head gaskets on both side i got the driver side off easy now the passenger side not so much the A/C duct aint anything like my 02 SD truck thats a peice of cake! there are A/C lines that run under the duct box u normaly remove on the SD trucks
has anyone done head gaskets on the EX do ya gotta pull the cab or engine? is it possible to pull the head with out doin either of the two? for the passenger side
You got me on that one, but I've seen Srmastertech do it on a 6.0 Superduty, but he had to remove the HVAC box. It's tight enough trying to remove the valve cover bolts...
It's do-able without lifting the cab or removing the engine, but it would be easier to give the engine a good once over if it came down to removing it or lifting the cab.
If it came down to removing heads I would just pull the motor. You already have all the fluids drained, wires unhooked, and all the lines off. It is just a couple motor mounts and some trans bolts away from being out, on a stand, right there in front of you easy to work on.
thanks yall!
so far the air duct has been nothing but in the way i wish id have left it swrewed on
iv got the head stripped and ready to pull i think all but 3 head bolts come all the way out looks like its gonna work so after midnight il get back on it and see whats possible and whats not and comment back letting yall know
Thankfully I havent done this, But I remember someone saying that you can unbolt a motor mount and tilt the engine to give clearance. Maybe someone will jump in to confirm. Although like Snowseeker said, your almost ready to come out. Need a good lift though.

I had a similar problem with a 5.4 SD gasser a few years ago. The head bolts were uber long. They fastened deep within the block, instead of the deck like most engines. I had to suspend the ones I couldn't remove with vise grips within the bolt holes of the head and pull it all out together. Same way going back in. One good thing was that the aluminum gasser heads are ALOT lighter.

he said it! with the head mounted still on the truck the last 3 removed and the ones that stay in the head during removing are the 2 right above the exust manifold out side the valve cover and one under the valve cover all 3 the A/C box is in the way also used vise grips to stedy the bolts
i lifted the head up enought to make sure head bolts cleared moved it toward the front of the truck a lil bit pull a head bolt out
raised the front of the head pulled the middle one out (NOTE: the front of the head is dang near hitting the fan and fan shroud
then lifted the head out of the engine bay and removed the last one
