Can anyone point me to a site that has block identifers ffor motors. Just managed to pick up a 428 at a still was told it was a cj but the intake appears to be an SCJ. The block numbers that i have right now are C6ME-A the only other number i have right now is A29-111. can someone tell me anything about this motor. or point me in the right direction. thanks
Go to www.428cobrajet.com You will find all you need there. The block # could be 390, 410, or 428. I have one of each with C6ME-A. A SCJ will have a counterwight behind the balancer. I think the intakes are the same. Good luck
according to my books your c6me-a is in fact a 428 built in 1966 to 1968. deck size should be 4.13" give or take .015". if u tear down the engine give us rod and crank numbers.
One thing you can guarantee is that the c6me-a on the block guarantees that it is an FE block, and nothing more.
I've seen that casting # on 352's, 360's, 390's (have one in storage out of a 66 t'bird) the 410 in my brother-in-law's `66 Mercury Montclair, 428's, and on FT truck engines too.
After 1965, you can't count on the casting #'s on the block for much of anything, except for maybe the 427's. Not to mention the block is nearly 40 years old, and very few of these engines anymore are completely original.
Only way to know for sure is to check the bore and stroke, or bore and casting # on internals like crank and rods.
One more thing you can be sure of is that a c6 block is likely to have a `65 or early `66 casting date, and is unlikely to be a CJ because they didn't start producing the CobraJet until late in the `67 year (which would be a C7 or C8 casting #, depending on when they made the changeovers).
