i have a 99 f150 with a 4.6 that will not start. it has sat for a while now. when i go to turn the key to turn it on it cranks and cranks and cranks but wont start. the theft light blinks like crazy and the odometer reads dashes. there is also a relay which i do believe is the pcm relay that clicks like crazy. when the relay clicks and the key is first turned to the on position the fuel pump will turn on and off as the relay clicks. we tried putting a scan tool to it to try to pull a code and the scan tool wont connect. i do believe its the pats system kicking, but i also think its related to this relay clicking like a mother, maybe a bad connection in the junction or something. but im not really sure how to try to start and find the problem. i have also tried replacing the relay that clicks and the new relay does the same thing. any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
X2 ford2go!!!! The theft light is flashing because the truck is not reading the chip in the key to allow power to pump fuel. Had a f150 of this gen. At work And we would mix the keys now and then and crank it and wonder why it wouldnt start! Haha. Well if you have a spare jump to that key. But I'm 99% sure your key is not disabling the theft system. I have a 97. No chip. Wonder when they started to chip the keys?
If the PCM Power Relay is clicking/chattering like you said, then either it's bad, or it has a bad power of ground connection. Might be a corroded socket, a corroded ground, a corroded fuse socket, a bad ignition switch or a few other things.
i looked on alldata today at school and its actually the fuel pump relay. but looking at the wiring diagram the fuel pump relay im pretty sure runs into a lot of things that control the pcm. since i couldn't get the code reader to work again today im going to go with your theory that the computer doesnt have enough time to boot up. i tried to program a clicker for the locks and the truck wouldnt go into programming mode. so tomorrow im going to try to take about the junction box and start from there.
I was running into that issue today, changed 30 amp fuse in position 30
and the problem stopped
(bear in mind that im repairing a 2001 xltso the fuse position may be different)
Cheers
