Don't even bother with anything but the BPD kit. I will say though that even with the cold weather kit for it it's still going to take a long time for the oil to warm up in the winter months. I ran into the same issue with my Audi using an external oil cooler, but obviously it's not nearly as bad with a gas engine. With the BPD kit you lose the coolant's ability to help warm the oil up, which to me is very important in the winter. If you do long trips in the winter this won't be a problem, but if the oil does not regularly warm to OT then it will not burn off the condensation in the crankcase system.

What do you consider normal operating temp? Apparently, the BPD people consider 180 normal, since they set their thermostat at that temp to open up and allow the oil to go through the cooler. Any idea how long you need to be at temp the dry the condensation? FWIW, my EOT was over 200 today after a 30 min drive, not towing. That's my daily, each way, and even in winter, it'll hit the 180 mark.
I've had the BPD external cooler for 2 years now.
I run a cold weather front (from FIA) in the cooler Florida weather because even on the hiway the cooler keeps the oil in the 165-170 range - UNLESS I run the A/C - then it stays @ 190.
If you live in an area that actually gets cold - I would strongly recommend the extra $300 for the cold-weather kit from BPD,
and also suggest you get the FIA Cold Weather front (it also includes a bug screen for summer).
BTW, I also bought the screw on mounting tabs - but haven't switched to them yet (I'm still using the peel-n-stick tabs).
Just search FIA cold weather front, and enter your vehicle.
