Bullet proof oil cooler temps

Have a 2006 F-250 with a bullet proof EGR cooler, 125,000 miles, second oil cooler, edge insight gauges Other than that its all stock.
My OEM oil cooler had an oil leak in the cooler and made the coolant into a nice oil sludge.
Decided to go with the bullet proof oil cooler installed by a reputable local diesel shop.
With the stock oil cooler I was seeing oil temps around 211 while empty. With the new bullet proof oil cooler I'm seeing oil temp around 215-218 and when hauling a light 16 foot flatbed trailer and a dune buggy (maybe 3K) Im getting up into the high 230 temps while going through the hills. All outside temps 70-80 degrees.

My questions is what are others with Bullet Proof oil coolers seeing in oil temps while empty and towing.
Thanks in Advance

So just to clarify, your bulletproof oil cooler is an actual air/oil cooler and not just some upgraded coolant/oil cooler?

Have you verified after a 12 hr. cold soak key on engine off that your temperature sensors are virtually identical? IMHO your temps are pretty dang high running empty.

To you have the cold weather package upgrade? It uses a t-stat of some form, it might be having an issue.

I have the BPD condenser mounted external oil cooler, without the cold-weather package.

I have a tough time getting my oil temps to 190 w/o using the A/C, so you should certainly NOT have oil temps that high based on your situation(s).

Have you verified your oil level? It's possible they added 15 qts and didn't follow the directions to pre-fill the oil cooler & filter? thus you aren't pumping any oil through the cooler?

good luck!

Is that even possible? Is the BPD kit a bypass cooler? I was under the assumption the low pressure oil had to go through the cooler. If not then there would be unfiltered oil circulating in the system

Thanks for the quick replies.
TexasTech-Don't have the cold weather package. I live in San Diego, no need for it.

npccpartsman-checked the Temps this morning and oil and water temp are within 1 degree

Misky 6.0- I also have the condenser mounted external oil cooler. I'll double check oil levels and see if external oil filter is getting warm after driving.

Misky-what are your temps when towing level and up a grade?

Thanks again guys

Sounds like the temp sensors are good. What's your ECT running?

Did you get the factory filter or the remote filter? The BPD isn't a bypass cooler. All the oil goes through just like the factory cooler.

It sounds like an airflow issue. What kind of bumper/grill/lighting setup do you have?

Partsman- Replaced the thermastat couple weeks ago and temps are usually around 190, when heading up the hills I was seeing low 200s, 200-210. have the remote filter.

BulletProofDiesel-Thanks for the reply, stock Bumper/grill/lights.

But the Stock setup has a Oil Cooler bypass that bypasses at a Pressure differential

The stock setup actually bypasses a lot of Oil I can see it each time I go WOT and temps shoot up a few degrees shortly after

Does the BPD setup have anything like that??

I know it bypasses oil if you have the cold weather kit and even with that it's not a full bypass. With a remote filter nothing in the factory filter housing is used.

The BPD full kit has a bypass built in. The kit that uses the factory oil filter also uses the oem bypass.
