85 f150 stalling problem

Here's what's going on; my truck will start fine but runs a little rough. It will drive ok for about a half hour and then completely lose power and coast to a stop. Then it will die and I have a hard time getting it to start unless it sits for about ten minutes. I have replaced a couple things based on my uncles tips and codes that I have pulled but it still does it. The parts that I have replaced are the Ignition Control Module and the coil.

Here are the most recent codes that it gave me:

14-Two or more successive erratic Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP) pulses occurred, resulting in a possible engine miss or stall.

18-IDM circuit failure or SPOUT circuit grounded.

22-MAP/BP sensor out of self test range.

31-PFE or EVP circuit has intermittently failed below minimum voltage of 0.24 volts.

Could one problem be causing other problems? What is most likely to be the problem? How do I fix it?

I am not a very good mechanic so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't know much about the codes, but I do remember that the most important one is supposed to be first. And, the ignition pickup failing fits the symptoms you described. So, you replaced two of the three ignition components, but I think it really was the pickup in the distributor.

Thanks.

I looked at that and I guess there are two components to that. Should I replace them both?

If I remember correctly it is just a reluctor, meaning a star-shaped piece of metal, and the pickup. I don't think the reluctor can go bad unless it is broken in two, so I would replace the pickup.

OK. I probably won't get to it until this weekend, but looks like that will be the next thing I try. Hope it works.

Thanks again.

I have never messed with a distributor at all. Is there anything particular I need to look for?

sorry it took me a while to get back to you. before you pull the dist take a scratch all and mark the dist housing where the tip of the rotor button points. next when you get the dist out it is very important before you take the gear off the shaft scratch the shaft and the gear to make sure you don't turn it over when you put it back on. if the gear is stuck on the shaft just put it in vice and take a rubber mallet and knock shaft from gear. when you take the old pickup out take air hose and blow any debre from dist. there is a chalkey substance from the pickup that gets in dist. hope this helps

i forgot this . i keep a dist behind the seat takes less than 10 min to change out. you can get them at rock auto around 70 buck's. if you or going to own this truck for long time you need a spare. it will fail you at the worst time.
