have any of u all had this problem? i have a 96 explorer, last year the back rear caliper locked up and it tore up my rotor. i got brand new loaded calipers installed and a new rotor for $300. exactly 11 months later, the rear caliper locked again. so i had to get it replaced again, but my mechanic did it for free cuz the parts were under warranty. now my back brakes squeak. is it b/c of the pads or are they going to go again? also when i stop at a light or have to sit in traffic, my idle will drop from 1000 rpms to 500 rpms and the engine will shudder, almost as if it wants to stall. then by some miracle, it'll rev itself back up to 1000 rpms. i've got it tuned, replaced the spark plug wires and plugs., thats a whole another story, my 4th cylinder wire burned up on my exhaust manifold, 2 times. so i had to get it replaced to the tune of $100. and my gas gauge is out of whack, it'll show a full tank when i first start it up, after driving for about 5 mins, it'll show a half tank, then maybe it'll settle on empty, then shoot back up to full. this may have something to do with my idling prob too. it's been to the dealer and my mechanic to no avail, they cant find whats wrong with it. i'm thinking maybe the engine is not getting enough gas, maybe some sensor or something in the computer is messed up, i dont know. but all i know is as soon as i get this thing paid off, i'm trading it in for something else. from what i've been reading, 96 was a bad yr for ford. my truck has been recalled a lot. and i know my transmission wont live past 100k miles. how ridiculous is that? my last vehicle was a 1994 ranger, i put 200000 miles on that truck, with no problems. every month my ex is in the shop or sitting in my garage on jacks, while i do some other repair on it.
Man, I feel for you. That's a pain in the @ss. Seems almost like you got a lemon with all of those problems. Unfortunately, I don't have any advice to give you. All I can say is, if you keep having problems, I'd write a letter to Ford and detail everything. I've heard people do this plenty of times and had positive results.
