Fuel Injection Cleaner
I'm kinda stupid when it comes to car care, but I'm trying to learn from my past mistakes. (ran 3 cars into the ground from lack of care) I just got a 2000 Ford Explorer with only 28K miles and I want to keep it in the best of shape (plan on having it for a long time). I downloaded a scheduled maintence log from Ford, however, it says nothing about fuel injection cleaner. From what I understand, you're supposed to put it in every 3000 miles. Does this stuff work? Should I use it for my Explorer?
Also, what is the best / cheapest thing I can do to improve the performance of my engine? (Air intake, plugs, etc.)?? I'm looking for horsepower and gas mileage improvements.

Fuel Injection Cleaner
I've been using it in my 94 Ranger 4.0L 4x4 since the day I bought it new. If I don't use it, i will get an occasional check engine light under heavy load conditions, such as when hauling a trailer in the mtns. I use STP Super Concentrated fuel injector cleaner with every oil change, which is 3000-3500 miles and no problems 155,800 miles later. I've never been to any shop for fuel system problems.
