Ive got a 77' F-350 and was wondering what kind of trans i got. I thought because it was a 1-ton, it would be a C6. I checked the door code and refrenced it to what my shop manual says, and apparently i have a C4. Does this make sense? i mean, isnt the C4 a light duty trans?
That's a pretty vague question given the fact that you've provided almost no information on your truck, such as the engine. You also didn't specify if you have a manual transmission or an automatic; based on your post I assume you meant to say it's an automatic.
I don't know what your truck has, and neither does anyone else on the internet. Crawl underneath your truck and look. If the corner of the pan is notched and there are 17 bolts, it's a C6. If the pan is almost a square and there are 11 bolts, it's a C4.
Also, if the F350 has an I6 it could be an FMX. That one will have a cast iron case.
The FMX was only factory installed on F350's with the 300 6 cylinder.
