I know that the air gap should be 0.014" ~ 0.030" Mine is at 0.032"
and I have red dust on the back side of the stator down near the
tensioner and compressor. I am thinking that the clutch has some
wear. Do you think I need to worry about also having to replace the
coil and pulley? BTW the A/C works like it should. Nice and COLD
What I am thinking is when I do the EGR project is change the clutch and
if I deed to do the pulley and coil. Maybe I can get away with just replacing
the shim pack with a thinner set like 0.012" less and that would bring me
back into spec.
I would like to hear back on this from some of our Ford techs if they can.
That is what I wanted to know.
Do you have a guess on what is rubbing to cause the rust dust?
It definitely coming from the clutch area.
I have a clutch, pulley and coil that are in good shape I can use if needed.
the rust dust is pretty normal. remove the clutch and check the amount of smims you have or mic the good one vs the one you have on there now and see what the numbers look like. excessive wear will be in the numbers.
we used to set the gap with machbook covers years ago
