I'm not sure of the warranty on the 60 series, but I talked to a guy that had over 900,000 with no problems. That is hallowed ground where once only Cat strode. He said the only repair he had made was to an a/c bracket that cracked. He also said the rear main was leaking.
Now don't you guys go burning any crosses on my lawn but he also said he could get over 8 mpg if he drove the speed limit, closer to 9 at 55. That's better than some pickups.

the CAT 3208 was designed from the FE 390, Cat designers along with Ford came up with it, take a look at one, and compare to a 390, my dad worked at Cat for 37 years, most of those in Mossvillie right outside Peoria IL(world headquarters for CAT) but most of his years were at the Tech Center, which is exactly that, testing new models and etc, even where the Powerstrokes fuel rails were originally designed for Navistar. But the 3208 has been around for quite some time, now shoe horn a 3406 b in a f series and id be happy! Anyways, as far as Cummins, last rumor i heard was that Ford did in fact buy the company recently, but from what ive found, is in the early 90's ford did own a percentage, but sold it back to cummins on a vote. http://www.woodalls.com/forums/index...Yes/page/2.cfm
Originally posted by willowbilly3 I think that 3208 was a dryliner throw away engine, I could be wrong. I saw one in an older F-250 4x4 once. They had to beef up the front end a good bit to carry the weight. Today's 5.9 cummins probably makes more power.
Are you crazy??? The Cat 3208 is 636 cubic inches, and the Cummins is only 358 or 9. No way that a 3208 could fit in a F-250. It barely fits in the C-70 at the farm. And no, the Cummins makes less power, because there were 3 induction versions, natural aspiration 3208 N/A (what's in the dump truck) the Cummins might have more hp against this one , turbocharged 3208T (no way) and some other kind. But no the Cummins is no ways as close to the power the 3208 Turbo makes. The Cummins may have more hp, but it'd be hard pressed to make more tq.

I'll see if I can dig up some specs from Cat. [/QUOT
Yeah I might be crazy, and I might not even remember the exact figures after so long but I believe that 3208 was under 200 horse in its original version. I worked on a bunch of service trucks on the Alaska pipeline that had those stinking wheezing engines. They did not hold up in the cold and were underpowered at best.
I saw the converted F-250 in a magazine about 20 years ago. Maybe the whole story was a communist plot to confuse poor deluded souls like myself into a demented stupor so as to leave us to writing things that other people can contest to make theirselves feel more intelligent while not actually being so.
