I have been doing some reading and can't find a direct answer..Gearhead says not to run a boost fooler, DP says its best to. I know it depends on how the tunes are built and by who. PHP, Swamps,No Limit and the others,I don't know about.
What I am wondering,1st, how much boost can the MAP stand??2nd, Lets use PHP's Hydra for example, what if a person has Gearhead tunes which they say do not use a boost fooler and PHP or any other tuners that does want one (I don't know that). It seems to me this could be a headache. or, am I missing something?
well from what i understand is that we use a boost fooler to stop it from reading over 23 psi so the pcm doesnt defuel the engine, if Matt uses the MAP then he must ,in his tuning, stop the engine from defueling above 23 psi, i dont see why it wouldnt be accurate after a certain point.
the way i look at it its like having an electrical boost gauge, except it sends the info to the pcm, not a gauge so i dont think it would be inaccurate after a certain psi of boost.
DP says it's best to use a boost fooler? I guess I did not ask about it when getting tunes based on my trucks mods. They did not recommend one way or the other that I add that hardware. I'd notice, wouldn't I, if I was loosing power due to defueling? I sure didn't see it using 80e WOT and 30psi boost, though the SES triggered above 27psi.
OK, how much boost can the map handle and live?.personally, with the S468 and .90 exhaust housing I am seeing 52 pounds of boost.
Yes, Tugly I have PMS @104 %
Also, how do you mix/match tuners on the Hydra if some use the boost fooler and some do not?
DP says it's best too use a boost fooler? I guess I did not ask about it when getting tunes based on my trucks mods. They did not recommend one way or the other that I add that hardware. I'd notice, wouldn't I, if I was loosing power due to defueling? I sure didn't see it using 80e WOT and 30psi boost, though the SES triggered above 27psi.
Jeff, my case may be different..as stated above, because of my high boost numbers (52 psi) Jody says to use it. maybe if nothing more than to extend the life of the map. IDK
I'd notice, wouldn't I, if I was loosing power due to defueling?.. definility
The DP chip or Jody does not block the overboost from reaching the PCM. Defueling is not the issue, the SES light with high boost is. I have direct experience with this, so I can see why joeyd61 would have one of these on his vehicle.
The TS chip doesn't permit the SES light with high boost, and Matt is not the only one that recommends against a boost fooler. While Matt may use the full MAP range (I suspect 53 PSI Absolute), he knows full well what max is and that's what matt-ers (get it?). I doubt I'd see a lot of daylight between Cody and PHP, and Cody discourages the use of a boost fooler... but his reasoning is different than Matt's.
when i got my tunes from beans he asked if i had a boost fooler, I told him yes and he sent me the chip. he never recommended one or didnt recommend one. but im only making 32 psi.
you would think you would notice, ive never noticed. I tried to see if i could feel it and didnt notice a difference.
I also think Matt has a different map sensor he can sell you that reads more accurate. I seem to remember Ziggy saying something about this years back.
